VMware SD-WAN Edge 2000

The SD-WAN Edge 2000 offers:

  • 6 Gigabit Ethernet connections
  • LAN/WAN configurable, 2 SFP+ WAN connections (10 Gb)

Standard Configuration Steps

Follow the steps below to install the VMware SD-WAN Edge 2000 in the standard configuration.

Step 1. Connect the Power

Connect the two removable power modules located on the back of the Edge to AC power outlets. When the Edge powers ON, the LED on each power supply should be green and the fans should fully engage.


Note: An alarm sounds until BOTH power modules are plugged into the active AC power.

Step 1a: Remove Front Bezel

If the Edge does not power on immediately, remove the front bezel using the enclosed cylindrical key.

Step 1b: Press the Power Button

Once the front bezel is removed, press the power button (located on the right-hand corner of the front panel on the Edge).

Step 2: Connect to the Internet

Connect the Edge to an available Internet connection, and then connect the Ethernet cable to any of the available ports labeled GE3 to GE6.


Note: The VMware SD-WAN Edge is configured by default to acquire a DHCP IP address from the ISP on the WAN (uplink).

Step 3: Follow Email Instructions

If you received an email from your IT administrator, follow the instructions in the email to complete the Edge activation.

 

Step 4: Connect Local Devices

Connect local devices such as desktops and switches to either of the ports labeled GE1 or GE2.

Advanced Configuration Options

The sections below describe optional advanced activation configurations that support the Edge activation Quick Start Guide that is shipped with the Edge.

Setting Up a Static IP Address

  1. Connect to the VMware SD-WAN Edge via an Ethernet cable, and obtain the DHCP IP address from the Edge.
  2. Open a Web browser and type in edge.velocloud.net in the address bar.
  3. Click the Details button located on the lower, right corner of the screen.
  4. In the Edge Overview section of the screen, you can click the Connected button to view your connected Interfaces.
  5. Note: If you click the Unconnected button, you can view any Interfaces not connected to an Ethernet cable.
  6. Click the name of the Interface you want to statically IP (GE1, for example).
  7. In the Configuration screen, set a static IP by selecting the Static option button, and then in the appropriate text boxes, type in the IP address, the Subnet Mask, and the Gateway.
  8. Click Save Changes to apply the settings.
  9. When prompted, type in the default username “admin” and the default password “admin.”

Setting Up PPPoE

  1. Connect to the VMware SD-WAN Edge via an Ethernet cable and obtain a DHCP IP address from the Edge.
  2. Open a Web browser and type in edge.velocloud.net in the address bar.
  3. Click the Details button located on the lower, right corner of the screen.
  4. In the Edge Overview section of the screen, click the Connected button to view your connected Interfaces. Click the Unconnected button to view any Interfaces not connected to an Ethernet cable, and click the Both button to display both connected and unconnected Interfaces.
  5. Click the name of the interface you want to configure for PPPoE (GE1, for example).
  6. In the Configuration screen, select the PPPoE option button and type in the Username and Password to complete the activation.
  7. Click Save Changes to apply the settings.

Installing and Configuring an SFP Module as WAN Interfaces

  1. Insert the SFP module in the SFO slot in the Edge. (The SFO is the black slot labeled “SFP”).
  2. When the module is ready, it will be listed as ‘available’ in the WAN Interface with the associated DHCP address.
  3. Follow the procedure above to configure the Static IP address if needed.
